Manji, Charpai, Daybed x Greenwich & Docklands International Festival
Meet artist Roo Dhissou and learn about the cultural significance of Manji’s, traditional South Asian woven beds.
Manjis are the Punjabi name for traditional South Asian woven beds, but they are also much more. They are spaces for rest, reflection, eating, communal gatherings or lying under the stars. They’ve become symbols of culture and community across South Asia.
Join artist Roo Dhissou in a family-focused celebration of the Manji. Take a moment to rest under a canopy of trees in Stratford Park, learn about the art of manji-making and try some weaving yourself in this thoughtful reflection on culture and community.
Manji ,Charpai ,Daybed is supported by the London Borough of Newham and Arts Council England. With thanks to Charcoal Blue.
